Kldekari

Kldekari – historical fortress located on a rocky peak of Trialeti Range. From here you can see Tsalka and Manglisi surroundings in the south as well as Tani and Tedzmi river valleys in the north like on the palm of your hand. There’re only ruins here now. It was located on an important crossroad where split cliff creates an exit (that’s where the name Kldekari originates from, it means “door of the cliff”).

Kldekari fortress was built after Aragvian feudal lord Liparit I of the Baghvashi moved to Trialeti in the 70s of the  IX century. During the next two centuries it was a center of the Duchy of Kldekari. Georgian royalty wouldn’t tolerate the increase of Baghvashis’ political power and seized  Kldekari fortress several times.
