Didgori Valley

After defeating the enemy’s coalition army on Didgory Valley, chasing and finally destroying them David the Builder was free to go to Tbilisi. In the Battle of Didgori the king not only defeated Seljuk coalition army but also managed to free and unite those cities where coalition army was gathered against King David. On Didgory Valley the fate of Tbilisi, Dmanisi and other cities was determined, it was the end of their independence. After the union of Georgian cities (Tbilisi and Dmanisi) initiated such an extensive war against the royalty, David was absolutely sure that the still independent cities of Georgia wouldn’t give up their positions without fight. So in order not to let them gather new auxiliary forces, the king went straight to Tbilisi. As a result, seizing Tbilisi in 1122 and Dmanisi in 1123 was in fact the extension of the Battle of Didgori.

Winning the Battle of Didgori made the full liberation of the country possible and laid the foundation for the Georgian Golden Age. Georgia also became the strongest state in the region.
